In celebration of Earth Day the rescheduled neighborhood and stream clean-up effort made a big impact on the Borough. A small group of residents got together on Saturday morning to remove trash and debris from the stream and our neighborhood streets, branch collection from the green zone, and the Parks and Shade Committee raking leaves and pulling weeds at the Memorial Park and around the Borough sign.
We had a small but great group of volunteers who collected and bagged a massive amount of garbage in two hours. We are happy to announce with the exception of one shopping cart the stream over by the football field and the green area was relatively clean. This re-occurring event has made a great impact on keeping our green area and stream clean and litter free. Unfortunately, we did collect a number of car tires and garbage from the stream below the railroad tracks.
We also had a number of residents walk the Borough streets filling ten garbage bags of litter. We hope that we can keep this street rather clean and encourage people from littering and throwing cigarette butts onto our streets.
A very special thanks goes out to Ron and Vicki Cumer. They spent last week cleaning up the flower bed around the park sign. Nicholas’s parents did an amazing job of weeding, digging, and laying down lawn fabric in preparation for new mulch.
This was the third neighborhood clean-up effort the Borough has coordinated. We would like to thank the following volunteers who spent their Saturday morning cleaning up the Borough for helping in the event:
