In celebration of Earth Day, a group of residents gathered Saturday morning to remove trash and debris from the stream and our neighborhood streets. The Parks and Shade Committee raked leaves and pulled weeds at Nicholas Cumer Park, Memorial Park, and around the Borough sign.
Last week Nick Raimondi and Council member Michael McCormick planted 10 bare-root trees thanks to a grant that East Washington Borough received from Tree Pennsylvania and Penn State Extension. Jason Kilgore, Professor of Biology at Washington and Jefferson College, and his student Brianna Hoffman trimmed the trees and helped lay soil and mulch. Seven trees were planted at Nicholas Cumer Park, one behind the Borough sign, one in the Memorial Park, and one in the triangle plot of land at the top of North Wade. The trees are showing signs of life and will benefit the community in many ways.
Other volunteers collected and bagged a massive amount of garbage in two hours. This re-occurring event makes a great impact on keeping our green area and stream clean and litter-free.
This was the fourth neighborhood clean-up effort the Borough has coordinated. We like to thank the following volunteers who spent their Saturday morning cleaning up the Borough for helping in the event:
