On Thursday, September 8th Councilman Demond Nixon was sworn in as the Mayor of East Washington. The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Council member Joseph Fulton and Borough Secretary Alyssa Curry-Broderick. Council appointed Mr. Nixon following the death of Mayor Matthew Boice. Demond will fulfill Mayor Boice’s remaining term through the first Monday of January 2024. Borough Council will be appointing a resident to fulfill Demond’s vacated Council seat.
“The Borough has lost a dedicated member of our community. On behalf of the residents of East Washington, I want to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mayor Matthew Boice. When Matt ran for Mayor he talked about the division that politics plays and hoping to bring people together even when opposing viewpoints were present”. As Mayor Boice said, “Together we can accomplish much if we don’t care who gets the credit.”
“I am honored to be the Mayor of the Borough and hope to continue his legacy of everybody working together toward a common goal.”
