On Monday, March 22, 2021, a ceremony was held for the construction of the Faith Christian School flashing light project. Mayor Mike Gomber took the initial step to commemorate the community safety project with the initial groundbreaking as a symbolic gesture.
The project began in 2017 when the Mayor along with PennDot guidance, secured an ARLE grant to fund the project. Beau Street is a high-traffic road that runs through the East Washington community. The project will help with the safety of the Faith Christian students and residents by providing a school flashing light that will operate during school hours.
The unused portion of the ARLE Grant will allow East Washington to install a permanent speed monitoring device that will run 24/7 to alert drivers of how fast they are traveling the four-block area of Beau Street. The hope is that this will aid in slowing traffic along Beau street.
This East Washington project was made possible with the help of Representative Tim O’Neal, Cliff Eich from Trans Associates Engineering, Mayor Mike Gomber, Chief Dave Bradley, Shawn Auerbach Business Manager Bethel Park, and Chief Jerry Coleman. The ARLE Grant financed this East Washington Safety Project 100%. East Washington Borough improved Borough Safety at no borough expense.
