Notice of Trash Hauler Change for East Washington Borough Residents

Beginning Monday, January 7th, Earthwise / Big’s Sanitation is the new garbage hauler for the Borough, following a comprehensive bidding process. After receiving four bids, the Borough Council selected Earthwise / Big’s Sanitation which submitted the lowest bid. We welcome them as our new service provider for the next five years. Republic Services, which currently provides garbage collection, chose not to submit a bid for this contract.

Key Information About the Change:

  • Collection Day: Garbage collection will still take place on Tuesdays each week. Recycling will continue to be collected every other week.
  • Bagging Garbage: Big’s Sanitation asks that residents please bag and tie all garbage before placing it in your garbage cans. This will help prevent trash from spilling during collection, save time, reduce costs, and keep our streets clean.
  • Items Not Collected: Please be aware that building materials, liquid corrosives, and tires will not be collected. Additionally, refrigerators and air conditioning units will not be accepted unless they are properly tagged by a certified HVAC technician.
  • Electronic Recycling: The Borough is currently exploring options for electronic recycling. More information will be shared once a solution is finalized.

Initial bills from Big’s Sanitation will arrive before the end of December and be billed quarterly. We are happy to announce that the quarterly cost will be $78.93 slightly lower than what you paid in 2024. A brochure with the collection schedule will also be included with your bill and options for how to pay through their online portal on their website https://www.bigssanitation.com/.

Landlords who own buildings containing five or more units have the option of using Earthwise / Big’s Sanitation or making arrangements with another hauler, including their current hauler. Landlords who wish to use Big’s should contact (724) 379-4331 or service@bigssanitation.com as soon as possible to make their arrangements.
