Trash Can Ordinance Enforcement
As a courtesy and in accordance with East Washington Borough Ordinance Chapter 279, residents are reminded of the following solid waste guidelines:
Trash Containers Must Be Returned Promptly:
After collection, all trash and recycling containers must be removed from the curb or street in a timely manner. Leaving containers out for extended periods may result in code enforcement action.
Pick Up Fallen Trash:
Residents are also responsible for cleaning up any spilled or fallen trash around their property. Trash left scattered is considered a public nuisance and may lead to violations.
Violation Penalties:
Failure to comply with solid waste storage or disposal regulations may result in a code enforcement citation, with fines ranging from $500 to $1,000 per offense (per §279-16). Each day of noncompliance can be treated as a separate violation.

Trash Accommodations
If you or someone in your household has a medical condition that prevents you from placing trash at the curb, accommodations can be made to have your trash picked up closer to your home.
To request this service, please provide a letter from your doctor to Big’s Sanitation.
The letter should confirm the need for curbside exception due to medical reasons. Once received, Big’s will work with you to arrange an alternative pickup location on your property. Please contact Big’s (724-379-4331) if you have any questions about this process.
